Welcome! I am Dr. Lindsey Vincent. My passion for music knows no bounds; I am interested in creating and teaching music of all genres. In addition to teaching music and marching band for over ten years, I have composed pieces that encompass several genres, including — but not limited to — marching band, traditional choir, electronic, and experimental contemporary pieces for a range of instruments.

I’m currently available to be commissioned for composing both general works and marching band/percussion books for the 2024/2025 season. If you would like for me to write a piece for you or your ensemble, write show music for your band (winds and/or percussion), work with your ensemble, or give a clinic or masterclass, please visit the Contact page for more information.

Testimonials

“Ms.Vincent has been a pleasure to work with over the last three years. She has offered assistance to my Marching Band by coming in to teach camp and also by writing arrangements. Lindsey has also used zoom to assist in teaching my choir class. She has a very upbeat, positive attitude, is easy to work with, and is passionate about her work. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking assistance!”

“I had the pleasure of working collaboratively with Lindsey on 3 field shows for small marching band during my time at McEwen High School. Lindsey was great about taking my thoughts and ideas and creating fantastic field shows for our small marching band that were in our budget. The shows were challenging yet accessible for our group of students because she took a hands-on approach and tailored each part to the specific member of the ensemble which gave us a chance to feature each section in a manner that made them sound the best. Lindsey also worked our band camps as our percussion instructor and taught those students hands on. This was amazing because she was able to make some adjustments to the show as she was there and she was able to impart her knowledge to the students. Our percussion section was always top in our classes at every competition due to her tutelage. During our time working with Lindsey our ensemble grew in ability from playing Grade 2 music to Grade 4 music and she was able to increase the difficulty of the writing while still catering the works to small ensemble instrumentation and size. That is not an easy task to accomplish and Lindsey does so with great skill. I highly recommend her for any of your small ensemble marching band needs!

Lindsey also composed a contemporary piece for our percussion ensemble entitled ‘Different Strokes’ that premiered at McEwen High School in December of 2018. The piece utilized paint brushes, paint, and other art mediums to create the soundscape for the work. As students played the piece they were also creating 4 pieces of visual art. The students involved said that this was one of the most entertaining pieces of music that they have ever played as an ensemble. It does get messy and you need a large area to perform it. We performed the piece on the floor in front of the stage in our auditorium and I put down multiple large tarps to protect the area. This piece is one of my favorite percussion ensemble works and I would highly suggest it for any arts night or highly visible small groups concert.

More recently, Lindsey composed a Benediction for our middle school based on Auld Lang Syne. I had been searching for an already existing benediction that would work for our students and I kept coming up empty. I reached out to Lindsey with an idea and I came up with lyrics and she was able to take them and create a piece that works in 2 part or 3 part harmony depending on the voicing of the students I have in middle school choir that year (and throughout the year because middle school voices change very frequently). It is written very intelligently. The piece sounds great with 2 parts and adding the 3rd part only makes it sound better. Lindsey was also able to take this classic work and arrange it in a fresh way. We sing it at the end of every rehearsal and each concert. Students have also taught it to some teachers who come up and sing with us as well. It is the bond that connects the past and present and has been instrumental to the growth of our program. I love our benediction and it has become one of my favorite moments at every concert. This would not have been possible without Lindsey and her skill at composing beautiful works.”

“I was privileged to see a live performance of [Lux Aeterna] three times: twice in rehearsals and then the premiere performance. The piece sounded slightly different each time, as the movement of the performers was aleatory. This added an element of immediacy to the work in that no two performances would sound the same.

The harmonies of the piece alternate between sparse and lush, and this too adds to the kinetic aspect of the piece. Long melodic lines and silences are skillfully punctuated through the exploitation of final consonants 'x' and 's'. This effect was heightened by the "surround sound" result of the moving choristers.

During the premiere performance, the chance movement of the singers resulted in two choristers singing right next to each other and just beside where I was seated in the audience. I heard a bass singing a D2 positioned just behind a soprano singing a D5. The effect was thrilling, not only because of the juxtaposition of the registral extremes, but because the effect allowed a third listening to sound just as fresh and exciting as the first.”

“If you were to look up the word "multifaceted" in the dictionary, you would likely see Lindsey's picture next to the definition. In the 10 years I have known Lindsey she has always been known as the person to go to if something needs to be done. During the time I worked on staff with her, it would not be uncommon to see Lindsey lead a group, repair an instrument, give a lesson, lead a different group, and write music all before noon. She also is a great asset for group planning and collaboration. It is always a pleasure to be able to work with her and teach as well as perform the music she has written. As a musician, composer, educator, and colleague, Lindsey has earned my heartfelt recommendation.”
